The oil change interval for hydraulic oil in Mini skid steer loaders and Mini excavators is not a fixed value; it needs to be comprehensively determined based on operating conditions, the type of hydraulic oil, and the equipment manual. The following is a detailed explanation:

I. Basic Replacement Cycle (Refer to Standard Working Conditions)

Under normal operating environments (such as non-extreme temperatures, no excessive dust/moisture, and medium-load operations), the hydraulic oil change intervals for both are basically the same:


  • First replacement: New machines should have their hydraulic oil changed after approximately 200-500 operating hours (some brands require an early change after the break-in period to remove metal debris generated from initial wear).

  • Regular replacement: After that, replace the hydraulic oil every 1000-2000 operating hours.
    Note: The specific interval is subject to the equipment operation manual. Different brands (such as Kubota, Bobcat, etc.) may have differences. Some high-end models, due to their more precise hydraulic systems, require replacement within 1500 hours.

II. Key Factors Affecting the Replacement Cycle

  1. Severity of working conditions
    • If the equipment operates for a long time in environments with a lot of dust, humidity, high temperatures (such as outdoor operations in summer) or low temperatures (such as below zero in winter), or if it is frequently overloaded or works continuously for a long time, the hydraulic oil is prone to contamination (mixed with impurities and moisture) or accelerated aging. In such cases, the replacement cycle should be shortened to 800-1200 hours.

    • If the operating environment is clean and the load is light, the replacement cycle can be appropriately extended to 2000-2500 hours, but the oil quality must be tested in advance.

  2. Type of hydraulic oil
    • Ordinary mineral oil: Has a shorter service life and is recommended to be replaced according to the lower limit of the cycle (1000-1500 hours).

    • Synthetic hydraulic oil (such as ester-based, polyether-based): Has better anti-aging and anti-low-temperature performance, and can be extended to 1500-2500 hours, but the cost is higher.

  3. Oil quality test results
    If professional testing (such as viscosity, moisture content, particle pollution degree, acid value, etc.) shows that the oil quality still meets the standards, the replacement can be appropriately delayed; if the oil has changed color (blackened, emulsified), has an peculiar smell, or has impurity precipitation, it must be replaced immediately without waiting for the fixed cycle.

III. Additional Notes

  • Replace the hydraulic oil filter element simultaneously when changing the oil: A clogged filter element will block the oil circulation and aggravate contamination. It is recommended to replace the filter element every time the oil is changed, and check the filter element status every 500-1000 hours in daily use.

  • Completely drain the old oil: When replacing, it is necessary to release the residual oil in the hydraulic system (including pipelines, oil cylinders, and sediment at the bottom of the oil tank) to avoid mixing and contamination of new and old oil.

  • Choose the appropriate model: The viscosity of the hydraulic oil must meet the equipment requirements (for example, low-viscosity oil is selected for low-temperature environments, and high-viscosity oil is selected for high-temperature environments) to avoid system wear caused by incorrect models.
